As the busiest airport in Wales, Cardiff Airport offers a staggering range of short and long-haul flights to suit every traveller. If you’re planning to be one of the 1.5 million passengers that visit the airport each year, then you’re most likely to be arriving by car. To help you get the first step of your journey planned, JetParks have created this handy guide chocked full of parking tips.
Pick-up & Drop-off at Cardiff Airport
Uniquely, Cardiff Airport has both a dedicated pick-up and drop-off area – making it super-easy to collect or leave passengers. Both areas cost to use, with the drop-off area in front of the terminal doors costing much more than the pick-up point in the short-stay carpark, however, they’re also both within a few minutes’ walk of the terminal and check-in. If you’d rather avoid paying, you can use the free drop-off and pick-up area in Long-stay Carpark 2.
The short-stay carpark at Cardiff Airport is relatively small compared to that of other airports and as it’s extremely close to the terminal it’s one of the most sought-after carparks on-site. If you’re planning on visiting the airport for a few hours and wish to use the short-stay parking, make sure that you book a space ahead of time. Those planning to leave their vehicle for longer than a few hours should book long-stay parking.
Further from the airport are the three long-stay carparks, numbered 1, 2 and 3. All the long-stay carparks are within walking distance of the terminal and offer 24 hour security. Carparks 1 and 2 allow you to pay and park on the day of your arrival, however, Carpark 3 is for the longest stays, with a minimum stay of 7 days, and requires pre-booking.
Book Cardiff Airport’s Meet & Greet service to enjoy a little VIP treatment at the airport. Meet with a valet on the day of your flight who will take your car and store it in a secure carpark. Then when you are leaving the terminal, simply call the valet and they’ll meet you by the exit with your vehicle.
There are three hotels close to Cardiff Airport, each of which offer a shuttle bus directly to and from the main terminal doors. If you’re concerned that you may miss your flight due to traffic, you can drive to the airport the day before and stay at one of the hotels to guarantee you’ll make it.
Helpful Hints for Visiting Cardiff Airport
No Maximum Parking Time: Many of the carparks at Cardiff Airport have no maximum parking time, just a maximum amount to pay, so it may be worth leaving your car in the short-stay area if it would work out cheaper than paying the daily rate in the long-stay parking area.
Hotel Shuttles: Each of the hotels nearby the airport offer parking and a shuttle service to customers so it may be cheaper to spend a night at the hotel and leave your car there.
